We enjoyed playing at Kevin & Carrie’s gorgeous wedding at Farnham Castle recently. Farnham Castle is a venue we’d not been to before. It’s right at the top of the Farnham high street, and is in a fantastic position for the town. There’s a lovely wedding venue, and ruins of the old castle for the wedding photographs.
We were booked for play for the wedding ceremony and the drinks reception afterwards.
The ceremony was an emotional moment, with us playing a specially commissioned arrangement of The Songs of Athenry (of The Fields of Anfield Road) in memory of Carrie’s late father, who was a big Liverpool fan. I don’t think there was a dry eye.
The ceremony was lovely. Carrie was fashionably late which gave us a good chance to entertain the guests with a selection of very upbeat tunes from our collection such as Calvin Harris’ Summer, Ellie Goulding’s Burn, and many more.
We moved out into the hallway by the outside – people were moving between indoors and outdoors. The acoustic was great! We enjoyed playing several of our tunes out here, and noticed that our rendition of Game of Thrones went down particularly well !
And here’s a Q&A from Groom Kevin before the wedding :
Your Wedding Venue: Farnham Castle
Wedding Date: 16.06.2019
Why did you choose your wedding venue?: We both wanted a castle wedding and with Carrie’s late father’s name being Norman when we found out the chapel that we wanted a blessing in was called Normans chapel it just ticked all boxes and came across like a bit of a sign
At what point did you realise you wanted a string quartet?: I knew when i saw you play my sisters wedding, for carrie it was when i showed her your youtube videos
Pick three words that sum up how you feel about your wedding day: Excited, nervous, sick
Why have you chosen your music to walk down the aisle to (if we are playing for this part): Carrie is an avid Liverpool fan and from the moment her father passed she knew it was the song she wanted to walk down the isle too
Tell us an interesting story about you as a couple – (i.e. how you met, how you got engaged, funny tale that we should know about): I took her to Brugge for a random city break away knowing all along i was going to propose. I flew my wedding photographer out to brugge and he took candid photos of the engagement for me. I spent 3 months planning it and making sure we were over ‘Lovers Lake’ on a bridge at the right time. It could not have gone any better
Any musical background yourselves?: I played bass guitar for 6yrs as a child but lost interest when i learnt to drive
Who is your photographer?: Mr David Glover
Who is doing your flowers?: Fine Flower Company Farnham
Where is your dress from ? : Helena Fortley in Caterham Valley
If you are having any readings, who is giving them?: Ceremony reading is Gillian Rudge, Carries mother. Blessing reading is Rose Fitzgerald my mother
