Old Thorns Hotel

We absolutely loved playing at the wedding of Jennifer and Steve at Old Thorns Hotel recently. Old Thorns Hotel is a golf club and hotel, with a Starbucks attached (and Anna’s favourite venue therefore). We’ve played there several times before and it’s always good fun. According to Wikipedia The Old Thorns estate  was previously the property of Ken Wood in the 1940s some ten years before he would invent the kenwood food mixer. It however was another 30 years before a golf course was to be constructed in the 400 acre site.

Jennifer and Steve had booked us for the ceremony and then the drinks reception afterwards.

We spoke to Jenny before the wedding and asked her a few questions about their big day.

Your Wedding Venue: Old thorns hotel

Wedding Date: 28th Oct 2017

Why did you choose your wedding venue?: We fell in love with old thorns hotel, great first impressions in an ideal location.

At what point did you realise you wanted a string quartet?: Right at the beginning of our wedding plans

Pick three words that sum up how you feel about your wedding day: Nervous Excited Broke! lol

Why have you chosen your music to walk down the aisle to (if we are playing for this part): It’s a song I really like the sound of and love listening to. I you tubed how it would sound being played by a string quartet and fell in love with the song even more. I think it’s a great song that will create Emotion upon walking down the aisle, on everyone! We played Cristina Perri – A Thousand Years

Tell us an interesting story about you as a couple – (i.e. how you met, how you got engaged, funny tale that we should know about): We met at a mutual friends 30th birthday party, our wedding day is sentimental to us because it’s the same day we met. It’s exactly 6 years ago from the day Of our wedding. Steve proposed to me in a restaurant, I was totally oblivious and was not expecting it. When it happened we got a huge cheer from everyone watching. I was in a lot of happy tears because there is a story behind my engagement ring. Sadly my Dad passed away 7 years ago and the diamond from my ring is from my mum and dad’s engagement, he just had the stone taken out that was donated by my mum and the band surround made up. I always say it’s a little piece of my Dad I carry around on my finger.

Any musical background yourselves?: Steve is a fanatical music lover and has been in several bands himself. He plays the bass guitar.

Who is your photographer?: Jacqui and Steve Dunster

Who is doing your flowers?: Wedding mai design

Where is your dress from ? : Wed2be

If you are having any readings, who is giving them?: Liam (Steve’s son) And Angus (Steve’s best man)

It was a top notch day. As we’ve blogged about previously, Steve got in touch with us a week before to tell us he’d booked a choir as a surprise to sing ‘All You Need Is Love’. We worked it out with the choir so that we could join forces and play this together, and recreate that famous scene from love Actually. It was great fun!

Processional : Cristina Perri – A Thousand Years

Signing of the register : Israel Kamakawiwoʻole – somewhere over the rainbow & Oasis – Whatever

Exit Music : The Beatles – All You Need Is Love
