How many years have you been playing your instrument?
Well, now that would be telling! and might just give you too much of an idea how old I really am!!…..altho if it was how many years had I been playing my current cello, well, that would be about 24, now that sounds better!!! …..Ok, time to fess up, now let me see…hm, about 32…..see, I told you that was quite something!!.
What is your favourite piece for your instrument?
Well, I do like a bit of Bach for playing, as it’s the only solo option pretty much, you can’t beat the Elgar Cello Concerto of course, and, I have to say, I do love the part the cello has to play in a quartet probably much more than solo at the moment. Debussy or Ravel quartets current favourites….anything with some good dramatic plucking.
What other instruments do you play?
I play the piano, or I did, I can manage a passable rendition of Bob the builder on the guitar for my two year old if necessary!! (suprisingly distracting!!) – Nb, it’s the same chords as wheels on the bus, and Baa Baa black sheep….)
What is your favourite wedding venue The Bossard Quartet have played at?
I have to say I do love Rhinefield House in the New Forest, with the minstrels gallery, huge lawns and impressive chandelier, great both in winter and summer (Autumn and Spring must be pretty fantastic too!!)
Aside from music what are your other interests?
I am more on the visual arts side, being a painter and art teacher by trade. Landscape and seascape, sweeping curves of a beach, and large expanses of prussian blue oils given half a chance. I also have a rather all engaging role as mother of a 2 and 5 year old which the quartet playing is a wonderful complement to! (once you’ve made it out of the house without being covered in something sticky!!)
If you could choose one piece from The Bossard Quartet’s repertoire that is your favourite, what would it be?
Ooh! tricky, just one! I do love a bit of Baroque, so, there’s a correlli ppiece that we don’t get to play as much, but I have to say, I do love playing Stairway to Heaven!! It’s a brilliant arrangement, really lush! and, what a bass line!! so, from Baroque to Rock!!! I’d say that is starting to sum us up a little!!!
If you could choose one piece from The Bossard Quartet’s repertoire that you wish we played more, what would it be?
Oh, Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles”, one of Anna’s arrangements which was a request a while back, which was a tricky conversion from a piano based song, which I think she did brilliantly, and I loved! (played first on the minstrels gallery at Rhinefield House again!!)
