Carey’s Manor – Mr & Mrs Sime

On Saturday we played at Carey’s Manor in the New Forest. We have played there several times before – it’s a very popular wedding venue in Hampshire. We were booked to play for the ceremony itself, and also the drinks reception.

Jayne The Bride walked in to Pachelbel’s Canon at Carey’s Manor, and then followed a lovely ceremony with some Bride-Groom written sonnets as readings. For the signing of the register we played Adele’s Make you Feel my Love, and Eva Cassidy’s Song Bird. Both lovely requests for calm soothing music while the couple sign on the dotted line. They walked out to The Beatles’ Here Comes The Sun – an optimistic choice, but indeed the sun did come out!

We then set out underneath a tree outside Carey’s Manor and played for the drinks reception where people greeted and congratulated the new marrieds. It was just about warm enough – they were very lucky! We worked our way through alist of requests from the Bride & Groom that they had given us in advance – everything from Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, Beatles, Sinatra, One Direction (yes, really, we have that!) and plenty of fun pop choices to keep the guests entertained.

Thank you to the best man / usher who took the time to come and thank us after everyone had gone inside for their wedding reception meal.

We then made our merry way back to Southsea. It’s in the Car that we often have our craziest ideas – this time, we thought about making a series of CDs themed to each decade. Now That’s What you Call The 80s for String Quartet…

Good idea? We’ll see – watch this space!
