The Flow: East Barn, Courtyard, and South Barn

From a musical perspective, Upwaltham Barns provides a brilliant and fluid layout that allows us, The Bossard String Quartet, to accompany the entire celebration seamlessly.

• The East Barn (Ceremony): This is a spectacular, light-filled space for the ceremony. With its gorgeous exposed beams and neutral palette, it provides a beautiful backdrop. Importantly, the design ensures fantastic natural acoustics, allowing our music to soar and resonate beautifully as the couple exchanges vows.

• The Central Courtyard (Drinks Reception): Once the ceremony is complete, the venue really comes into its own. Guests naturally spill out into the charming central courtyard, which is often beautifully decorated with flowers and outdoor seating. We simply relocate or remain nearby, playing our set as the guests mingle and enjoy their canapés and drinks. The atmosphere here is always vibrant and full of joy, and the architecture helps the music carry perfectly into the open air.

• The South Barn (Wedding Breakfast): Later, we often move into the spacious South Barn to provide subtle, sophisticated background music as the wedding breakfast takes place. This barn has a cosy, rustic feel, and its size can comfortably accommodate a full quartet while guests dine and chat.
